Newsletter: Summer has arrived!

15th July 2009

I know this newsletter is quite close to the last one but the end of July is looking quite busy for us, so wanted to make sure we got July's one out so we can let you all know about our Special Offer in September and October.

As the title states – Summer has arrived. Like the UK we have had some great weather – at times we have reached 38C and even for July that's hot!! At night it has sometimes stayed well above 20C, which makes it a bit difficult to sleep but when you wake to a beautiful blue sky with not a cloud in sight you forget all about it.

Dusti's first swim

Dusti's first swimThe photo shows Steve in the river with the dogs cooling off. We found a lovely spot by the River Soane, under some trees with a shallow area for paddling. It was about 35-36C this day and everyone was feeling the heat.Hot Tub Jessica had arrived the night before so we packed up a barbecue and went off to the river and had a great day, relaxing.

We've made good use of the hot tub – but have not heated up the water, so that is actually cooled us down. Austin was even trying to get in with us!!

Activities in Azé

On Sunday June 30th, the road leading to Cluny was closed for a Hill Climb. This time it was supposed to be for pre 1980 motorbikes but there were bikes taking part that were definitely post 1980! Steve and his friend André went along for a look and said the atmosphere was good and it was quite good fun watching the bikers going up the hill.Hill Climb Event

On Sunday October 18th the road will be closed again but this time for cars to race up the hill – so why not think about booking up with our special offer and being here to watch it in person?

July 14th saw Bastille Day come and go– a big day in the French calender. Azé had a family day followed by a community meal and disco -unfortuantely the weather was not good for us as we had a massive thunder storm -mind you we could've used that as the firework display!!
Azé doesn't use it's budget for fireworks for this Public Holiday but they put it towards the fireworks for the Annual Fair, which is why they are so good. Let's hope the weather holds out for us all in August.

On July 19th we have a slalom event with cars – we are not really sure what to expect all we know is that Azé is going to be a busy place that day – as this event has been widely advertised and is part of a national event.

August 1st, 2nd and 3rd sees the annual Azé Fair and the village is getting ready for the influx of thousands of visitors. Our fair is probably the largest of it's kind in the department and is always well supported. The atmosphere takes on a real party feel and the fireworks on the Saturday night are quite spectacular. Come back and read next months newsletter to see the photo's and an update of the weekends event. You've got time to book a flight and get over here for the weekend as we have a room available- why not treat yourself?

So, as you can see July is shaping up to be a busy month. Don't forget our special offer for September and October, the weather over here at this time of year can be lovely, not too hot and when the leaves on the vines start to turn in the Autumn the scenery becomes a blaze of colour.
Maybe we'll see you over here. See you all next month.

Local Events

If you are thinking of a visit, why not take a look at the events section and find out what is going on in this area - at the time of your proposed trip. There is something for everyone in this area - so it wouldn't be too hard to find that something that interests you.

Local customs

We've been made to feel so welcome by the locals in Azé, it takes twice as long to get down to the village as everyone here stops to say hello, with either a kiss or a shake of the hands. It's part of everyday life to be so polite and friendly and we are looking forward to the annual May feast for our commune, where meeting and greeting everybody takes so long but is so pleasant you don't mind. The food is great and conversation is a challenge, you take your own plate, cutlery and glasses but our friends and neighbours have helped us fit in so we don't feel too uneasy at this unusual event.
