Newsletter: It's official... it's a heatwave!

19th August 2009

It's hot out here and it's official. Temperatures have reached an impressive 37C in Macon and it seems to get hotter each day. No rain now for nearly two months and the grass is looking very brown, plants a bit limp and water butts have run dry! Rain due at the weekend and I never thought I'd say this but I look forward to it.

Azé Fair 2009

What's been happening?...well the Azé Fair happened on 1/2/3 August and it was a good turnout. Not as many people as last year but still good in the middle of a recession. Weather was superb and the fireworks seemed better than ever.Aze Fair

We've been busy!

Business has been better than expected– especially as this is our first year and we only opened at the beginning of June. We have met some really lovely people and hopefully we have helped them on their way by giving them good food and good accommodation. The guest book has some wonderful comments – come out and see for yourself!

We are busy creating another bedroom for next year as we are having to turn people away. It was always the plan to have four rooms but now it's becoming essential to get this up and running ASAP. The hot tub has been well used over the past few weeks – recently we don't even heat it and it's used as a type of "plunge pool" to allow people to cool down.

The Slalom

The Slalom 09Our slalom went ahead at the latter part of July – very well supported and so successful that we are having another one next year. Some amazing vehicles took part and it was quite a sight to see these cars whizzing through Azé.

Special Offer

We are offering 4 nights for the price of 3 for September and October 2009. Why not pop out to see us – watch the "vendange" (grape harvest) in September or bring your camera and watch the trees and vines change to the wonderful colours of Autumn. Whilst here – go and try the locally produced wines and stock up for Christmas. If you can't make it – why not think about buying it as a gift for someone celebrating a wedding anniversary or a birthday?

August Countryside view of Aze

September is going to be a busy month as the vendange commences – grape harvest. The village becomes alive with the extra people coming in for seasonal work collecting the grapes and the machinery working flat out to get it all in. Our local cremant (bubbly) is collected by hand towards the end of the vendange , in order to reduce the bruising to the grapes and all in all it's an exciting time of year. Why not book some time over here and see for yourself.

Well until next month ...see you soon

Local Events

If you are thinking of a visit, why not take a look at the events section and find out what is going on in this area - at the time of your proposed trip. There is something for everyone in this area - so it wouldn't be too hard to find that something that interests you.

Local customs

We've been made to feel so welcome by the locals in Azé, it takes twice as long to get down to the village as everyone here stops to say hello, with either a kiss or a shake of the hands. It's part of everyday life to be so polite and friendly and we are looking forward to the annual May feast for our commune, where meeting and greeting everybody takes so long but is so pleasant you don't mind. The food is great and conversation is a challenge, you take your own plate, cutlery and glasses but our friends and neighbours have helped us fit in so we don't feel too uneasy at this unusual event.
