Spring has Sprung! - 23/03/2010
At last – Spring has finally made an appearance. Like you in the UK, we have had a long, cold and white winter and as much as I like the white stuff even I got fed up with it! Mind you the dogs loved playing in it and chasing the snowballs. Read more...
Beaujolais nouveau and Raclette evenings ahead - 30/11/2009
The dark nights have crept up on us already and we are not liking the dark mornings either – no other choice but to stay in bed longer eh! Well, only when we have no guests and November has been good to us with a steady flow of customers. Read more...
The harvest has finished - 25/10/2009
Well – it's nearly the end of October and the grape harvest has finished and the celebrations have all been had. The weather is still being very kind to us – in fact I have just got back from giving the dogs a walk and it's a beautiful afternoon, with the sun shining on the golden hues of the vines and no wind. Autumn is arriving... - 29/09/2009
Well, September in Azé has been very busy with the grape harvest. It started early this year as we've had such a good summer and all indications are that this is going to be a superb year for wine quality, some say it's on par with that of 2003, which is very exciting! Read more...
It's official... it's a heatwave! - 19/08/2009
It's hot out here and it's official. Temperatures have reached an impressive 37C in Macon and it seems to get hotter each day. No rain now for nearly two months and the grass is looking very brown, plants a bit limp and water butts have run dry! Rain due at the weekend and I never thought I'd say this but I look forward to it. Read more...
Summer has arrived! - 15/07/2009
As the title states – Summer has arrived. Like the UK we have had some great weather – at times we have reached 38C and even for July that's hot!! At night it has sometimes stayed well above 20C, which makes it a bit difficult to sleep but when you wake to a beautiful blue sky with not a cloud in sight you forget all about it. Read more...
Cherry Picking - 19/06/2009
As you may have guessed by the title of this month's newlsetter, the cherries have arrived – and boy is there a lot of them. We have made them into Jam and ice cream, put them in Kirsch and Brandy, frozen them and dried them, in fact if anyone knows what else I can do with them I'd be grateful for any suggestions. A new addition to the family! - 04/05/2009
As I write this month's newsletter, the sun is shining and it's turning out to be a fantastic day. Not just because of the weather but because at 12.40pm today Steve became a granddad. Vicky and Steve had a gorgeous baby boy at 12.40pm and all is well. We are over the moon and Steve will be flying home on Friday to have his first cuddle!. Read more...
Thoughts from a sunny Sunday in Azé - 22/03/2009
As I sit here on the balcony and write this, the afternoon crowd are just starting to arrive for the "Foire".
Let me explain, here in Burgundy they still have the traditional 2 hours lunch break. It starts at 12.00 and finishes at 2.00 and happens every day of the week, not just the weekdays. Read more...

Local customs
We've been made to feel so welcome by the locals in Azé, it takes twice as long to get down to the village as everyone here stops to say hello, with either a kiss or a shake of the hands. It's part of everyday life to be so polite and friendly and we are looking forward to the annual May feast for our commune, where meeting and greeting everybody takes so long but is so pleasant you don't mind. The food is great and conversation is a challenge, you take your own plate, cutlery and glasses but our friends and neighbours have helped us fit in so we don't feel too uneasy at this unusual event.
